Elm Street in Lebanon was officially renamed to Route 66 on April 1, as City of Lebanon Street Department crews began installing new street signs along the corridor.
The change follows a resolution approved by the Lebanon City Council and a public hearing that drew no objections. The updated signage marks a significant step in recognizing the historic significance of the roadway.
The renaming is part of broader efforts by Lebanon to prepare for the Route 66 Centennial in 2026. According to city officials, this project aims to honor Lebanon’s history along what is known as the Mother Road, enhance improvements along the Route 66 corridor, and make it easier for visitors and travelers to follow Historic Route 66 through town.
Residents interested in learning more about ongoing projects related to the centennial or future plans for the corridor are encouraged to visit the City’s Route 66 Name Change Project Dashboard.
The official designation of Elm Street as Route 66 reflects both community pride and preparations for increased attention during next year’s centennial celebrations.
