When Lake Regional Surgery Center – Lebanon opened on November 5, 2025, it brought expanded orthopedic care to the local community. The center performed its first outpatient total knee replacement on its second day of operation and surpassed 100 surgical procedures by the end of December.

Machalle Mullins was the first patient to receive a total knee replacement at the new facility. Mullins, a nurse with over four decades of experience, had suffered from years of knee pain due to her work and a recent fall. She sought treatment from Lake Regional Orthopedic Surgeon Jeffrey Mutchler, D.O., who initially tried arthroscopy before recommending a full knee replacement.

Mullins said, “I felt honored. At first, I was a little nervous, but from the moment I arrived, everyone made me feel completely at ease. They were kind, professional and confident. That gave me confidence, too.”

The proximity of the surgery center made the process easier for Mullins compared to previous experiences that required travel under difficult conditions. She noted that having familiar staff members also helped: “That familiarity built a lot of trust,” she said. “It meant so much to see someone I already knew and respected.”

Pain management was another highlight for Mullins. She explained that an effective nerve block administered by the anesthesia team resulted in minimal postoperative pain: “It was like night and day,” she said. “I woke up without pain. It made everything easier.” Physical therapy sessions nearby further supported her recovery.

Reflecting on her experience and its significance for others in Lebanon, Mullins stated: “It means a lot to know I helped open the door for others,” she said. “To anyone considering surgery here, I’d say: do it. You’ll save time, avoid long drives and the care team is absolutely wonderful.” She added that regaining mobility has allowed her to remain active on her property.

Lake Regional Surgery Center-Lebanon offers advanced outpatient procedures with modern technology such as robotic-assisted systems for joint replacements. The facility includes three operating rooms, a gastroenterology procedure room and multiple patient bays.
