New and returning members of the Lebanon City Council were sworn in during the regular council meeting on April 13. The oath of office was administered by City Clerk Lacey Brackett to four councilmembers, including two who are newly elected and two who are returning to their positions.

The annual election process allows Lebanon voters to choose one councilmember from each ward. This year, Jaret Scharnhorst was elected for Ward 1 and Joe Berkich for Ward 2 as new members. Jeff Mutchler will continue representing Ward 3, while Chuck Jordan returns for Ward 4.

Mayor Jared Carr recognized outgoing Ward 2 Councilmember Sheila Mitchell before the ceremony. Mitchell received her council nameplate and photo along with the Mayor’s Silver Leaf Award for Outstanding Service. “In appreciation of her dedication to the community,” Carr said, acknowledging her more than a decade of service.

The council also paid tribute to Gib Adkins, former Ward 1 Councilmember, who passed away in December last year after serving over three decades in various roles, including nine years on the city council. The city formally retired his seat at the meeting and presented his nameplate and photo to his wife, Angie Adkins. She also received the Mayor’s Silver Leaf Award in memory of Gib Adkins “in recognition of his years of service to the Lebanon community.”

The city expressed its anticipation for continued work from its city council as they represent residents moving forward.
