The Lebanon Police Department announced on April 15 that it is observing Animal Control Appreciation Week, which takes place nationwide during the second full week of April. The department highlighted the daily work of its Animal Control team, which includes rescuing animals in distress and addressing reports of neglect.
Animal Control Officers play a key role in maintaining safety for both residents and animals. Their responsibilities range from responding to emergencies involving pets to investigating cases of animal cruelty or neglect. In addition to fieldwork, these officers also care for animals at the shelter, assist with pet reunification efforts, and support adoptions.
The Lebanon team consists of Animal Control Officers Sunny Shaufer, Leslie Manning, and Ronald Grapes, led by Animal Control Manager JT Taylor. Each member brings specialized training and experience to their roles within the department.
Police Chief Jerry Harrison said: “Animal control is often a thankless job, especially when everything is running smoothly. But our team makes a real difference every day. Their work helps protect our residents and the pets they love.”
The department encourages community members to recognize the contributions of animal control professionals during this appreciation week.
