WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The East Central University baseball team closed its three-game series against Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a pair of losses to the Bulldogs by final scores of 15-4 and 19-3.

In game one, ECU took control early by opening up the scoring at the top of the first.

Duncan Key singled, Christian Whitaker hit an RBI triple to plate key, then crossed home plate after Nolan Herchock doubled to right field. Dawerlyn Amancio followed with a hit, and with a single from Tanner Collins, Herchock scored for a 3-0 Tiger lead.

ECU held SWOSU scoreless with only two hits in three innings before the Bulldogs broke open the game in the fourth, which the Tigers could not find a way out of.

The Tigers added its last run in the top of the fourth after Nick Blankenship scored on a wild pitch, but SWOSU quickly responded with nine runs in the home half to flip the script and take the four-run lead.

SWOSU tabbed five more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to settle the score 15-4.

The Tigers had seven total hits in the loss, spread between Whitaker with two and Key, Herchock, Amancio, Collins, and Ian Mason with one.

In game two, ECU struck first once again, adding a pair of runs to open the game. Carson Thomas reached on a fielding error, advanced to second on the throw, then stole third to get into the scoring position. Christian Whitaker drew a walk and stole second, which caused a throwing error from the catcher, and Thomas got the green light to cross home plate. Another throwing error allowed Whitaker to advance to third, and Nolan Herchock's sac fly allowed Herchock to score for the 2-0 lead.

SWOSU answered back with a pair of runs of their own to even the game 2-2.

The Tigers regained the lead in the second after Cooper Hunt scored on a throwing error to make it 3-2, but that would be the last time they were up.

The Bulldogs collected 11 runs in the second, three in the third, and three in the sixth to finalize the score 19-3.

Amancio, Collins, Hunt, and Blankenship each had a hit in the game.

The East Central University baseball team will return home to Ken Turner Field for a single game against Oklahoma Baptist University Tuesday, March 14 at 2 p.m.
