Miners Continue Glvc Play at Quincy This Weekend

ROLLA, Mo. - The Missouri S&T baseball team will continue Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend as it visits Quincy for a pair of doubleheaders with the Hawks. The first will take place Friday beginning at 2 p.m. and then the teams will face off in a second doubleheader Sunday at noon in Quincy, Ill.

The series was originally scheduled over three days, but was adjusted due to the weather forecast in the region late this week.
 
The Miners (8-7, 0-4 GLVC) enter this weekend's series coming off a four-game sweep at the hands of William Jewell last weekend to open GLVC play. S&T tallied 28 hits in the four games with the Cardinals, five coming from Garrett Weiner (Alton, IL/Marquette), while Tommy Ruether (Washington, MO/Washington) had four runs batted in as Sam Monroe (Moline, Ill./Moline) drove in three. 
 
S&T is led in batting by Dakota Sill (Lansing, KS/Lansing) with a .385 batting average, while leading the squad with 20 hits, three triples and 32 total bases. Chase Burgess (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) has a .360 batting average with a team-high four doubles and sharing the team lead with Sill with 10 stolen bases, while Doug Wood (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) leads S&T with 22 runs batted in.
 
On the mound, Dylan Mollett (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and Ethan Morrow (Lenexa, KS/Shawnee Mission West) have each pitched at least 17 innings this season, with Morrow recording a team-high 17 strikeouts while Mollett has fanned 14 batters. Estin McBroom (Monett, MO/Monett) looks to improve off a solid six-inning performance at William Jewell in which he allowed only two runs and five hits.
 
ABOUT QUINCY:


The Hawks (11-3) open conference play this weekend as the owners of a seven-game winning streak that includes a four-game sweep over Northwood and a three-game series sweep over Augustana this past weekend in Quincy.
 
This season, Quincy is led in batting by Gino D'Alessio with a .397 batting average while leading the team with 23 hits, 21 runs and four stolen bases. Luke Napleton is second on the team with a .351 batting average as he leads the Hawks with nine home runs, 22 RBI and 52 total bases with a slugging percentage of .912. Napleton hit five of his home runs in the series against Augustana and was named as the GLVC's Player of the Week.
 
On the mound, Quincy's top arm is Spencer Walker as he enters the series with a 3-0 record with seven earned runs allowed in 23.2 innings; he has recorded 15 strikeouts. Griffin Kirn has made four starts totaling 13.2 innings pitched and has allowed 15 earned runs while giving up a team-high four home runs.
