Washington, DC - Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04) introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives yesterday to commemorate the 54th anniversary of the Kansas City Chiefs' first Super Bowl victory. The resolution pays tribute to the historic achievement of the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl IV, which took place on January 11, 1970.

The resolution highlights several important aspects of the Chiefs' victory. First, it recognizes the significance of the day when the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Minnesota Vikings with a score of 23-7 in Super Bowl IV. This triumph marked the end of an era as it was the last game played by an American Football League franchise before the league merged with the National Football League in 1970. Additionally, the resolution celebrates this victory as the first Super Bowl win for the Kansas City Chiefs.

One of the iconic moments of the game was the "65 Toss Power Trap," a memorable fake run play. This play is acknowledged in the resolution as a pivotal moment in the history of the Kansas City Chiefs.

In a floor speech, Congressman Alford expressed his admiration for the Kansas City Chiefs and their impact on the community. He stated, "We honor a landmark moment in sports history and celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs' first Super Bowl victory. The Chiefs have been more than just a football team; they have been a unifying force, bringing people together across Missouri. Their success has helped grow our local economy, supporting small businesses and creating countless cherished memories. The Chiefs' victory in Super Bowl IV symbolizes the spirit of unity that defines our community and stands as a testament to the team's excellence and enduring legacy."

The Kansas City Chiefs' victory in Super Bowl IV holds a special place in the hearts of fans and the community. It represents not only a significant achievement in sports but also the unity and pride that the team has brought to Missouri. As the resolution introduced by Congressman Alford recognizes this historic milestone, it serves as a reminder of the Chiefs' excellence and their lasting impact on the community.
