Congressman Mark Alford, representing Missouri's 4th district, has introduced new bipartisan legislation aimed at supporting veteran-owned businesses. The Successful Entrepreneurship for Reservists and Veterans (SERV) Act was introduced alongside Congresswoman Sharice Davids from Kansas and Congressman Herb Conaway from New Jersey.

The SERV Act mandates the Government Accountability Office to study and report on how veteran and reservist small business owners access credit. It also tasks the Interagency Task Force on Veterans Small Business Development with developing an action plan to promote programs available to veterans.

"As members of Congress, we have the duty to protect and support our nation’s veterans," said Congressman Alford. "This bill is a huge step in doing that. It is a win for our districts, a win for veterans, and a win for our country. I am proud to co-lead the SERV Act with Congressman Conaway, as well as my colleague Rep. Davids who represents our neighboring district to promote veteran entrepreneurship."

Congresswoman Davids emphasized the importance of supporting veterans as they transition to civilian life: "Veterans in the Kansas City region and across the country have sacrificed so much for our nation, and the least Congress can do is support them as they transition to civilian life," she stated. "Too often, these heroes face unnecessary barriers when trying to start their own businesses, despite their dedication and skills. I’m proud to reintroduce the bipartisan SERV Act to give them the tools and resources they need to succeed as entrepreneurs."

Congressman Conaway also highlighted Congress's obligation toward veterans: "One of the greatest obligations Congress has is ensuring that the men and women who served our country have all the support they need," he said. "The SERV Act is a significant step forward in providing our nation’s veterans with access to important small business resources that they need. I am proud to co-lead this legislation with Reps. Davids and Alford, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to help uplift veterans."
