Today, Congressman Mark Alford of Missouri and Congressman Jim Costa of California introduced a resolution to designate March 18, 2025, as National Agriculture Day. This initiative aims to celebrate the significance of agriculture in the United States.

Congressman Alford emphasized the dedication of those in the agriculture sector: “Our farmers, ranchers, and other members of the agriculture community work around the clock all year to feed, clothe, and fuel the world.” He highlighted that this recognition has been ongoing for decades and expressed pride in continuing this tradition alongside Congressman Costa. Alford noted that agriculture is vital to communities across Missouri's Fourth District and nationwide.

Congressman Costa pointed out agriculture's role in national security by ensuring nutritious and affordable food is available. He stated, “Agriculture is part and parcel of America’s national security,” emphasizing its importance every night at dinner tables across America. He also acknowledged the San Joaquin Valley as a major agricultural hub producing over 300 commodities.

The resolution was supported by numerous original cosponsors from various states including Glenn Thompson from Pennsylvania, Angie Craig from Minnesota, Bill Huizenga from Michigan, among others.
