Today, Congressman Mark Alford from Missouri's 4th District paid tribute to the late Christopher S. "Kit" Bond on the House floor. This comes after Governor Mike Kehoe announced the passing of the former Missouri Governor and Senator earlier in the day.
In his remarks, Congressman Alford expressed sorrow over Bond's death, stating, "It’s with deep sadness that I rise today to honor the life and legacy of former Christopher S. ‘Kit’ Bond." He extended condolences from himself and his wife Leslie to the Bond family and acknowledged Bond as one of Missouri's cherished figures.
Alford highlighted Bond's influence as a statesman and mentor, noting his more than forty years of public service. "Having served for more than forty years, including as Missouri’s youngest ever Governor and later as United States Senator, Kit’s impact can be felt all over Missouri and across America," Alford remarked.
Bond was recognized for his dedication to veterans' care, military support, and service to Missouri residents. Alford stated that he is proud to continue Bond's legacy through work on the Appropriations Committee.
Concluding his speech, Alford shared a message of hope: "It brings me hope to know Kit now rests with his heavenly father, and we are eternally grateful for his lifetime of service."
