The orthopedics team at Lake Regional Health System has expanded with the addition of Dr. James M. Edwards, a fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist. Dr. Edwards is now seeing patients at Lake Regional Orthopedics, located within the Lake Regional Imaging Center in Osage Beach.
Dr. Edwards offers expertise in minimally invasive procedures and provides both surgical and nonsurgical treatments for various musculoskeletal injuries, including broken bones, dislocations, torn ligaments and cartilage, as well as conditions from sports, work or trauma. He also treats degenerative joint conditions such as knee arthroplasty.
“I believe medical decision-making is a collaborative process between the physician and patient,” Dr. Edwards stated. “There’s rarely a one-size-fits-all solution for an injury or condition. Often, multiple treatment options exist — both operative and non-operative — and the best path forward is the one tailored to the individual patient’s needs and goals.”
Originally from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Dr. Edwards earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia where he completed an orthopedic surgery residency before undertaking a sports medicine fellowship at Knoxville Orthopedic Group in Tennessee.
Prior to joining Lake Regional, Dr. Edwards practiced orthopedic surgery in Cape Girardeau for nearly two decades while serving as team physician for Southeast Missouri State University and several local high school football teams.
Outside his professional life, Dr. Edwards enjoys spending time with his family and indulging in cooking activities. “I really enjoy exploring different cuisines and finding new flavors,” he shared.
