Lake Regional Health System is participating in National Pharmacy Week, which takes place from October 19 to 25. The week aims to recognize the work of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in supporting health care and patient safety.
As part of the observance, Lake Regional is encouraging residents to participate in Check Your Meds Day on Tuesday, October 21. This initiative focuses on medication safety by urging people to review their prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for accuracy and proper use.
“One of our pharmacists’ most important jobs is to ensure accuracy and safety of medications,” said Tony Kauten, PharmD. “It’s always a good idea for patients to know what medications they are taking and why. National Check Your Meds Day is a great reminder to talk to your pharmacist about the supplements and over-the-counter medications you use. Our team can help ensure you have an accurate and up-to-date medication list that you can carry with you to all of your future medical visits.”
Lake Regional employs a staff of 19 pharmacists and 22 technicians who work across its inpatient pharmacy as well as three retail pharmacies. Inpatient pharmacists provide care at the hospital and Cancer Center, while retail pharmacies serve the lake area by offering prescription services and information to help patients manage their health. The pharmacy team also collaborates with Lake Regional clinics to coordinate safe and effective medication therapy.
